Introduction to Education: Disability Law, Policy, and Institutional Implications

LEGAL STUDIES 203B

This course is designed to provide non-teacher certification students with a working knowledge of the laws and policies governing disabilities and how they impact social, economic, political, and educational institutions. This introduction to disabilities is provided from a legal perspective and will appeal to self-motivated students interested in learning more about how disability awareness might impact their everyday lives. Topics for discussion include IDEA, ADA, and Section 504 accommodations and how these laws apply to K-12 schools, higher education, immigration, housing, substance abuse, courts, employment, and access to public transit and public accommodations.
